The potty training weekend was alright! Charleigh handled it better than we did! Ha! She’s such a good girl. You have to remember we did this all cold turkey. We just stopped putting diapers on after talking about it with her all last week. We kept telling her, "Charleigh, on Saturday no more diapers!"
Day 1 (Saturday) was as to be expected. Lots of accidents. Lots of talks about the potty and what goes in the potty. The immature side of me had to refrain from giggling when discussing bodily functions… : ) We didn't take her out of the house at all. I had stocked up on cleaning supplies, disposable pads to lay on the floor, and we rolled up the carpet. Day 2 (Sunday) was much, MUCH better. She only had 2 accidents on Sunday compared to 10 on Saturday!
She colored on the potty, ate on the potty, read books on the potty... pretty much anything to keep her on the potty. She is wearing a pull up at nap time and bedtime and going around naked as much as possible. Fast forward to today - she isn't sitting on the potty as much and just going over to it when she has to go. That is the tricky part - her knowing that she has to go and getting to the potty.
Her teacher at daycare is helping her with all of this too. On Monday, Charleigh was home with Greg in the morning and then went to school for a few hours. She had one accident and one success while there. Today is the big day. She is at daycare ALL day. Even though they have a little potty at school, we sent her with her Elmo potty yesterday and today to help with the transition. She has 10 pairs of pants packed, along with about 100 pairs of Superhero "underwears." Hahaha.
To be honest I kind of feel like a nervous wreck worrying if she will tell them when she has to go or will she walk over to potty by herself? Will she tell someone if she has an accident or will she wait until the teacher notices? Is she ready? Is she nervous? Will they remember to give her her M&Ms if she successfully goes on the potty? Will being at daycare and not at home set her back? Will they do the pee pee dance for her? Will I ever stop worrying?
GOOD LORD! I AM EXHAUSTED! She is a smart, smart girl. She is learning so fast. We know she can do this and we know this is the right time for her.
