Parks and Recreation: Food is energy

BREAKING NEWS - I no longer feel any guilt for the 3am brownie I ate last night Thanks to Andy breaking it down for me. (See previous post)

Spelling isn't my strong suit.

I had insomnia last night. That happens to me maybe once a year. I was up in the wee hours watching Friends re-runs. That was a great show. I had to hit the gym right away today because I may or may not have eaten a stupid brownie at 3am. Who does that? (The answer is a fat kid)
It's the 20th anniversary of one of the best movies of all time, The Sandlot. Look at the cast above. Is it just me, or do they look identical to themselves as kids? The red haired kid in particular. I need to watch this movie again now. Look at Squints! I wonder if he ever married Wendy Peffercorn?
Is "imparticular" a word? Spellcheck is telling me no, but I could have sworn that what I should have said above instead of "in particular?" This is why I was always out in the first round of the spelling bee in grade school.

Bad spellers unight! (See what I did there?) Ha! Float on...

I kick my own butt in this post.

Hola pals! Hi Gramma. Hi mom. Hi Sylvie. Hi to you all!
The royal baby was born. The media has covered this birth like this was the last baby that was ever going to be born. Crazy. Greg and I made a bet that if the baby was a girl, he would have to change the cat box. If the baby was a boy, I would have to change the cat box... crap! (Literally)

Last week we went through a heat wave. It was over 100 all week. I got in my car last Thursday afternoon and my thermometer said 111 degrees. I absolutely hate being hot. I turn into a whiny baby. I'm thinking of starting a countdown for fall (the BEST TIME OF THE YEAR!)

Someone should just kick me. I'm whiny about being hot and yet I have AC in my house and my car. Remember when I went four years without AC in my car? How quickly I forget what it could be like. Or what about the solders overseas in temperatures hotter than Haiti's? Shut up Meg.

I just successfully kicked my own butt.
This picture has nothing to do with anything other than I think it's freaking hilarious. If you can't read the tiny print it says, "No matter how cool you think you are, using that thing brands you an assclown." HAhahahha!

Than I found these too. Happy Tuesday! Float on...

Charleigh "playing" softball

I'm here.

Hi. I'm here. I haven't disappeared. Summer is sometimes too fun to sit behind a computer : ) Charleigh thinks summer is too fun to even sit her pool. She prefers a bucket. Ha! Love that little peanut.
Anyone seen the TV series Homeland? Oh my lawwwwd, it is amazing. I am so addicted right now. Claire Danes does an unbelievable job in her role. She plays an intelligence officer following a US Marine who was held captive for 8 years. After his triumphant return home she suspects he has become a terrorist. If it sounds like every episode is a mini movie, that's because it is. It's gripping.
Greg and I are crazy. We are going to potty train early, and no, we have no idea what we are doing. Charleigh will turn 18 months this week. We are thinking of starting the potty training next weekend. We bought a hilarious "Elmo Adventure Potty Chair." It was one of those moments where you think to yourself remember when I use to go shopping for beer in college or clothes with my girlfriends? Now, here I am. Buying a "potty chair" with an adventure theme. Ahhhh, adventures in parenthood. Fingers crossed we figure out this whole process quickly.

A blow dry... bar?

I was driving through town the other day and I saw a new store moving in to a nearby shopping center. The sign on the door said that it was going to be a, "Haute Blow Dry Bar." Am I the only one wondering what in the world that is? I assumed it was just another salon, but then I looked it up.

"You won't find scissors or foil at Haute. Our tools of the trade are dryers and flat irons. We invite you to stop by our salon, pick out a great style... and let us pamper you with a wash, scalp massage, and blowout or updo to complete your ensemble. "

They do your hair for you! Sure most salons do that too, but they also have to focus on cutting, dying, waxing, trimming, etc. The blow dry bar will charge $35 to do your hair. That seem pricey to just wash and curl my hair, however, there are times when you are in a rush or feeling extremely lazy that this service would be quite the treat. They even host parties for bachelorette parties, girls night outs, and birthday parties. I dig it.

I never knew a place like this existed.

I back Pat and mail.

Hey guys and gals. How about that Pat Summitt special last night? I loved the story of Pat in labor telling those around her that she refused to give birth in Virginia because Virginia had beat her team 6 months earlier. I found her attitude of not playing the victim inspiring. No matter what you are facing in life, don't make excuses and don't play the victim. Wow. She is my role model and I thought the documentary was so well done. Her son will carry on her legacy. I'm sure of it. He seems to have a lot of her instilled in him.
Even though Pat would frown at me right now, I do have to say, do you know what I am the victim of? Probably not because you're not a mind reader, but it's junk mail! I, your loyal blog writer, am the victim of obsessive amounts of junk mail. GOOD LORD Capital One, MasterCard, and other random credit card companies! GIVE IT A REST! I don't want your plastic. Let's get real here! Sending me 3 letters a day ain't gonna make me want your plastic. Mind your business!

I hope someone from the credit card company is reading to day (Or at least the mail demon who sends this crap out!)

The Pat Summitt Documentary is tonight.

I grew up in Knoxville, Tennessee. Knoxville isn't an NFL, MLB, or NHL city - it is an SEC city. Knoxvillians proudly support The University of Tennessee athletics. College football is HUGE. These folks bleed orange and white. The thrilling atmosphere of the city during the football season is beyond that of any NFL game. But besides the football program, Knoxville is home to The Lady Vols. They are the pride and the joy of the city.
Speaking of pride and joy of the city, we can't not mention Pat Summitt. Throughout my years in Tennessee my parents had season tickets to the Lady Vols home games. I am incredibly proud to say that I saw Summitt in action first hand! I saw her create an elite program in women's college basketball. I watched her coach Michelle Snow in 2000, who shocked the crowd by dunking the basketball. I watched her son run towards her after the games ended and she was right back to being a mother.

Did you know that when Pat Summitt first got the head coaching job with The Lady Vols she washed the players uniforms herself? Did you know she was on a recruiting trip when she went into labor with her son? Did you know she coached a game when her son was a mere 12 days old? This woman gives inspiration to working mothers in this world. She gives inspiration to us all.
In 1999, the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame opened in Knoxville. I strongly urge you to see it. If you are ever in Knoxville, it is a must. Pat is of course seen throughout the hall of fame. She is truly a legend in the sport of women's basketball. She is truly THE legend of coaching... in ANY sport.
Tonight ESPN will air Pat XO at 8pm. It is a documentary about this powerful woman narrated by her son, Tyler. If you love sports, watch it. If you love inspirational stories, watch it. If you want to be moved by the strength of one woman, watch it.

I have no idea how one hour of TV can sum up the impact of this woman, but I am anxious to see it.

CONGRATULATIONS Kristy and Elliott!

My best friends are having a baby! They found out yesterday that come November, a baby GIRL will be joining their family. I could not be more thrilled for them! They are a wonderful aunt and uncle to Charleigh and I know that baby Izzy will be so lucky to have them as parents.

Charleigh and ABC Dancing.

Took a mini break!

Hi everyone. Hope you all had a great 4th/long weekend. We did. I spent time with my husband and daughter and truly soaked it up. I watched Charleigh play with her babies. I watched her care for them by rocking them and patting them.
I watched my husband mow the lawn and swim in a pool with our little girl. She splashed and loved every minute of it. She is not scared of the water anymore.

I snuck away with my husband and went and saw some ridiculous zombie movie in a theater! Just the two of us! (World War Z for those who care) I then sat across from Greg and had a conversation with just him at California Pizza Kitchen.
I ate delicious hummus and pita and he had a big cobb salad and quesadilla. We shopped together. (He bought a bug zapper... ha) We held hands. And we then picked up Charleigh. It was just what we needed.

I feel like I really soaked up the minutes. Sometimes you get caught up in everyday life that you forget it's a gift you're given. I remembered to appreciate this gift over my mini break.
*Also this happened... HAHAHA! Greg said I couldn't get in it. I had to prove him wrong but got stuck and tipped over in the process.

It's a new week and I am recharged and ready to go. Let's do this! Float on...

The one where I go on a jello rant.

Good morning folks. Happy Tuesday. (Ali, if you are reading, this picture is for you! Thanks for the awesome card in the mail) Tomorrow is our Friday. I hope most of you have the same work schedule this week. It's pretty crazy to have a 4 day weekend in July, especially when my company doesn't even give us the day after Thanksgiving off, but I am in no way complaining. I am going to take this extra random day off and run far, far away!

Just joking. I'm going to play with my kid and husband. Duh.

According to the Insurance Institute, 4th of July is the most deadly driving day on the highway of the year. Not trying to be a Debbie Downer here, but I wanted to remind you all to stay safe. Watch out for idiot drivers and if you are an idiot driver yourself, stop that nonsense! Just put the keys away and enjoy your red, white, and blue jello mold without driving.
Apparently this is how some people say happy birthday America. If someone gave you a red, white, and blue jello mold on your birthday would you be happy? No. Don't you think America deserves better?  *Paid for by the bloggers against Jello molds campaign.

There really is something about a jello mold that creeps me out. I had to just Google them to find that picture above. You want to see some more?
Maybe this is why jello molds are creepy. People think making brains out of them are fun. Gross.
Apparently America jello is popular...? Who would have thought. You could put it right next to your red, white, and blue jello.

Someone probably took hours to do this. Hours. On Jello. Who are you? (And can I have some of your free time?!)

Of course one could argue that I just spent some time blogging about jello.
